Norway: Senja – White-tailed Sea Eagles

The White-tailed Sea Eagle is the apex predator of the northern seas. It’s the eagle with the largest wingspan among eagles (1.9–2.5 m /5.8–8.0 ft). It’s closely related to the the American Bald Eagle and the African Fish Eagle. The populations are healthy in northern Norway but significantly threatened elsewhere in Europe. A boat trip out into the rough arctic waters – and you can observe eagles fish and dive for food right in front of your eyes! When an eagle is diving, the gulls and other birds scatter away. This is the eagle species on both German and Polish coats of arms.
