Oman: Jalan Bani Bu Ali Fort

Way off the beaten tourist path in the town of Jalan Bani Bu Ali One can find an absolute jewel of an Omani fort – Jalan Bani Bu Ali Fort. The ancient fort in the center of town is unrestored, crumbling under the weight of time. You can feel like an Indians Jones or Lara Croft exploring the ruins and walking through ancient carved doors and walking in the castle rooms (hoping nothing will collapse above or underneath you). Being abandoned and not touched with an extensive restoration process, this fort looks much more authentic and historic. The town has several other abandoned watch towers. The town is known in Oman for many traditional professions and occupations like khanjar making, weaving, goldsmiths and silversmiths, and many others.
