Oman: Omani Food Recap

Omani cuisine has long been influenced by the fact that Oman has been a vast trading empire between the Arabian Peninsula and east to India and China and west to Africa. As such, the cuisine is influenced by a lot of variety and spices (especially saffron). Rice is an inalienable part of it, as are the dates. Abundant sea offers a lot of fresh fish and seafood dishes. Halwa is a national sweets specialty as well as the Omani coffee (known as kahwa), loaded with cardamom. Finally, Oman is full of immigrant communities – Yemeni, Pakistani, Indian – each offering authentic ethnic cuisine.
