Oman: Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Salalah

Sultan Qabooz Mosque is the largest mosque in Salalah. Coincidentally, Salalah is where the sultan was born. It’s a new mosque built in 2009 and is somewhat austere comparator to the historic one in Muscat. It’s modern architecturally with many straight lines and geometric figures, towering minarets, white marble everywhere, humongous crystal chandelier, and an intricately carved dome. The carpet inside weighs 20 tons and is absolutely hand-woven with over 115 million knots. Unlikely many mosques in other Islamic countries that don’t allow non-Muslims inside, this one is Salalah welcomes everybody in.
