Papua New Guinea: Other Birds of Papua New Guinea

Birds of paradise are not the only birds worth seeing in Papua New Guinea – there several other species that are both unique and amazing. Start with Cassowary – the world’s third largest bird (after ostrich and emu, but looks completely different) – with weird purple and red colors, furry feathers, and a massive bony helmet on its head. It’s aggressively hunted for meat, feathers, and bones. Then there is the Imperial Pigeon – the world’s largest pigeon – with a magnificent crown on top of its head and the size larger then a big rooster. Or how about parakeets that literally have every color of rainbow on their bodies – these birds are pretty much going whole into tribal hats as decorations. Throw in birds of prey, swiftlets, and more endemic stuff as a bonus.
