Peru: Colca Valley

As the Colca Canyon opens up and gets less deep it turns into the Colca Valley – a broad green mountain valley full of remote Andean villages and terraced agriculture. Some of the terraces predate the Inca times. The people living here belong to Colaquas tribe that is also ancient and pre-Inca. The terraces are particularly spectacular and cover all the slopes in all directions. Massive cactuses cover the steep hills and their fruits are used for various foods including delicious ice cream.
