Peru: Cusco – San Fransisco Church & Catacombs

This is also a must see in Cusco – one of the oldest churches, built in 1572. Classical church stuff aside (like the altars, giant domed halls, and courtyards), there are catacombs in here with tons of skulls and bones, a huge library with texts from the 16th century, and the one of the largest paintings in the world – a 12x9m genealogy of the Franciscan Order. The enormous canvas displays 12 branches of the Franciscan Order, containing 683 characters, 224 shields and 223 weapons with legends and biography of the members of the order.
