Portugal: Conímbriga Roman Ruins

Conímbriga is an archaeological site of an ancient Roman city and one of the largest escalated settlements in Europe. The earliest layers of the excavated city date to the Iron Age. Sections of housing, thermal baths, columns, forum, theater, and aqueduct – all in pretty good condition after nearly two thousand years are on display as you roam around the vast site. And only 10% of the ancient Conímbriga has been excavated so far! The most spectacular are open-air mosaics with many different geometric patterns and layout covering a large area where the houses once stood.
