Rodrigues: Ile Aux Cocos (Cocos Island)

Ile Aux Cocos is a small sand island near Rodrigues and stunningly beautiful lying totally within the Rodrigues coral reef lagoon. Amazing clear water and white sand make this picture perfect. But there is more – it is a unique bird preserve. That is where the name Cocos actually comes from – there are no coconuts here but there are 100,000 nesting sea birds and their white eggs are referenced in French as “cocos”. Four rare species of sea birds all nest in this island – no other place on earth is like this.
