Sardinia: Su Nuraxi Archaeological Site

This was unexpected and amazing. Before everyone else invaded Sardinia, there were Nouragic people living here from about 16th century BC during the Bronze and Iron Ages. There are hundreds of settlements scattered all around Sardinia with Su Nuraxi being best excavated and preserved and hence a UNESCO site. It was truly like a medieval fortress – a 3-story stone structure with 4 defensive 2-story stone towers around and then another 7 wall-connected 1-story stone towers and then all surrounded by stone settlements and further fortification. Built in 14th century BC (yes – BC!) – this is insanely sophisticated. This must have been a palace at the time – skylights, freezer room, baths, kitchen, multistory living quarters, worship room, even a sauna and so on. Just no wi-fi – had to scream…
