Saudi Arabia: Abha

Abha is the capital of the Asir region of Saudia Arabia, by far the most picturesque with mountains and spectacular scenery and roads. Abha is at 2,270 m (7,450 ft) above sea level, a city of over 1 million. The heart of the city has all the attractions – the grand Shadda Palace and two-minareted Abha Grand Mosque, both in traditional mudbrick architecture. The palace has been meticulously restored and is now a museum. Although still officially closed, the caretaker opened it for us and guided through all the floors and richly painted and decorated rooms – seems like everybody is super excited to welcome tourists in SA.
