Slovenia: Ljubljana – Ljubljana Cathedral

The Ljubljana Cathedral (aka Saint Nicholas’s Church or Cerkev Sv. Nikolaja) is right in the heart of Ljubljana and somewhat tucked away between other buildings, although its two towers with green domes are easily recognizable from afar and are symbols of the city. Originally, there was a Romanesque church here that was eventually replaced by a Gothic one. When the latter burned, the present day Baroque masterpiece was constructed in the 1700s. The interior is super ornate with a lot of gold and frescoes, but the real showstopper is the ceiling full of angels. Also not to be missed is the heavy entrance door with reliefs.
