Socotra: Dihamri Marine Reserve
Dihamri Marine Reserve is a protected area aka a national park on the northern coast of Socotra and has some incredible scenery both above and below the water. The desert landscape features blood-red rocks and orange and white sands and the beach is covered with layer upon layer of broken coral, while the reef just offshore is spectacular and pristine. And best of all – you can set up your tent and camp just on the beach within just feet off the waterline, buy some fresh barracuda and grouper from local fishermen and grill them on the coals of an open fire, then watch the stars on an absolutely non-polluted sky, and the next day go fishing by boat and snorkel in the underwater wonderland (post coming next).
