Somalia: Mogadishu Fish Market

This was just insane! The Mogadishu Fish Market located in a coveted building near the old harbor is a total overload of every possible sense – unlike pretty much any market in the world. Here, fishmongers drag, pull, chop, carve, and sell pretty much all imaginable species of sharks, as well as large tuna and dolphins. You are walking in about 1-2cm/1inch of fish blood and dirt, other intestinal fish parts are floating nearby as well. Many of these fish species I have never seen in wild – and here they are all for sale – even hammerhead sharks are “smiling” at you. The market is cacophonous with bargaining going on everywhere and knifes chopping tuna and shark meat. Too bad I can’t include the smell with the pictures for a full recap.
