Spain/Castilla La Mancha: Campo de Criptana

Can’t get enough windmills? “At this point they caught sight of thirty or forty windmills which were standing on the plain…”, begins chapter VIII of Don Quixote. Campo de Criptana used to have the highest concentration of white-washed windmills standing on top of the ridge right in the middle of the tow – 34 of them. Today only 10 remain. The town also has a beautiful cathedral and a monument to Servantes, and then it takes some serious uphill walking to reach the windmills. On top – a beautiful panorama of the town and the surrounding Castilla La Mancha countryside opens up.
