Spain/Extremadura: Plasencia – Las Catedrales

Plasencia is famous for its double cathedral. There was an old romanesque/gothic cathedral in town when the decision was made to built demolish it and built a grand new gothic cathedral. However the reconstruction didn’t get completed and both cathedral now stand interconnected into one rather odd-looking structure from the outside. Inside, it’s absolutely amazing as well with intricately carved baroque altarpieces full of smiling fat angels, created by famous 17th century Castilian artist, Gregorio Fernandez.
