Sri Lanka: Kandy & Temple of the Sacred Tooth
The highlands of Sri Lanka were the home to the ancient kingdom of Kandy that held one of the most sacred relics in Buddhism – the tooth of Buddha (I did ask what happened to the other 31 teeth but nobody seemed to comprehend what I was asking). A massive temple complex was built to house the relic with elaborately carved and ornate buildings and ceremonial grounds. Thousands of people come here to see the relic and the building next door housea the world museum of Buddhism. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
