Torres Strait Island: Thursday Island – Green Hill Fort
The Green Hill Fort sits on top of the 58m high hill in the middle of the Thursday Island. It was built in the 19th century as Australia’s most northerly fortification against a possible invasion. The small fort is actually dug into ground rather then standing above it – with guns pointing in all directions and spectacular panoramic views of of the nearby islands – Friday, Horn, and so on.
