Tunisia: Bardo National Museum

Bardo National Museum is the second in Africa after the Egyptian museum in the richness of its collection of ancient artifacts. What it’s really known for are immense collections of Roman and Greek mosaics, in fact – it’s the largest collection in the world. Also the largest mosaic by size is here as well. Floor after floor after floor (as well as all the walls) are covered with elaborate mosaics that are just amazing in their quality and detail and scenes described. Beyond mosaics, there are also statues and heads of the Roman emperors. The building itself is a palace. The Bardo museum was the site of the terrorist attack on March 18, 2015, when 24 people were killed. The security is reinforced now and there are hardly any tourists anymore.
