Ukraine: Buky Canyon

Continuing to explore Ukraine, we come to one of the most photographed natural spots in the country – Buky Canyon. Located in Cherkasy Oblast in the middle of the country and 200 from Kiev, the 5km/3mi long canyon goes along the dammed Tikych Mountain River and is spectacular, as deep granite walls get narrow and tower above the water. This ain’t the Grand Canyon – the deepest part is only 20m – but it is beautiful nonetheless and offers good trails on both sides of the canyon. Some people superlatively call it the Ukrainian Fjord (referencing Norwegian wonders), but that’s also probably a stretch.
