Ukraine: Orbita Ghost Town

Almost everybody knows about Chernobyl and the abandoned ghost town of Pripyat. But turns out – there is another ghost town in Ukraine: Orbita. In the late 80s, a full scale construction of the Chygyryn Nuclear Power Plant was underway on the right bank of Dnepr River in the Chercassy Oblast. It was supposed to be a “closed” town for the employees servicing and working at the future energy powerhouse. But then Chernobyl happened and the construction was abandoned. Today, over 30 years later, the unfinished residential building and a supermarket stand empty and windowless with gaping holes in the walls and ground. To be honest, this ain’t as impressive as Pripyat, (and probably not worth driving absolutely brutal roads to get here), but still – it’s an eerie and weird site from the Soviet past.
