Ukraine: Svalyava – Wooden St Michael’s Church

This trip is quickly turning into the “wooden churches only”. Deeper into the Transcarpathia region, in the town of Svalyava, stands the wooden St Michael’s Church. The church was built in 1588 and stood at the top of the nearby mountain but was later moved to the current location in 1630. This one was built in Lemko art architectural style – a tall single tower with baroque-like construction. The church keeper actually opened this one for us and we got to see the inside, including some 17th century icons.
