USA/FL: Fernandina Beach

There is a beautiful barrier island in the north of Florida, just across the St. Mary’s River that divides the two states and it’s absolutely worth the detour – Amelia Island. The main town here is the historic Fernandina Beach, that’s been long inhabited by Timicuan Indians and then changed hands between Spanish, British, and French. The town itself is small with just a couple blocks, but they are full of old historic houses and beautiful churches. Also the first cross-state Florida railroad was built here in 1853.
