USA/IL: Starved Rock State Park

Moving on from Chicago – Starved Rock State Park in central Illinois State. The park lies along the Illinois River and protects granite high cliffs – Lover’s Leap, Starved Rock – with panoramic views of the river below. More, there are several narrow canyons – Wildcat, French, St. Louis – where water has carved out elaborate walls and stone falls. Historically, the place is infamous as well – it was here that the French colonial troops encircled the local Illiniwek Indians and starved them to death – hence the park’s name.
