USA/ME: Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse

Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the entire USA. It stand precipitously on the granite cliffs of a headland, almost falling over into the slamming waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The lighthouse itself is off limits, but a wooden staircase leads to an observation point from the north side and a really roughy path leads to the southern viewpoint from the rocks. The lighthouse is part of Acadia National Park. The lighthouse was originally built in 1858 and included a massive fog bell tower with an equally massive bell.
