USA/MS: Cypress Swamp & Natchez Trace Parkway

North from Jackson in Mississippi starts a scenic Natchez Trace Parkway – a national park unit that is a historic scenic forest road, winding its way from Mississippi to Tennessee. At Milepost 122, there is a spectacular boardwalk trail through Cypress Swamp. Here, you are in a weird fairyland of water tupelo and bald cypress trees. Both tree species can spend a lot of time in standing water. The trees are fat at the stump and with thick leafy branches – you are walking in the shadows of these giants on the boardwalk (watching out for potential alligators).
