USA/VA: Richmond – Virginia State Capitol

Richmond is the capital of the state of Virginia and its Virginia State Capitol complex is absolutely the sight to see. Standing on a hill in downtown Richmond, the white building was built in 1785-1788 and designed by Thomas Jefferson, who modeled it after the Roman temple known as the Maison Carree in Nimes, France. The park named Capitol Square surrounds the central building and has many monuments and statues, a Bell Tower, as well as the Governor’s mansion from 1913. And not a person in sight!
