USA/CA: Death Valley NP – Badwater Basin

Badwater Basin in the Death Valley National Park is the lowest point in the USA, at negative 282 feet / 86 meter below sea level. (Interestingly, the highest point in the continental USA – Mt. Whitney – is only 86 miles away). There is a small spring pumping “bad water” that almost immediately turns into salt in the hot Death Valley. Around Badwater, there is an enormous field of salt pans, stretching out almost across the entire Death Valley between the two mountain ranges.
