USA/CA: Mohave Desert NP – Hole-in-the-Wall

Hole-in-the-Wall Area in the Mohave Desert is a place of unique rock formations that look like Swiss cheese – full of holes, tunnels, and caverns. This is the result of ancient lava flows in the area with lava cooling unevenly and forming all the peculiar rock structures. The Banshee Canyon has a trail leading through its narrow walls and at one point you actually need to use metal rings in the canyon’s walls to climb out.
