Uzbekistan: Samarkand – Registan

Samarkand was the ancient capital of a large 14th century empire under Timur (Tamerlane) – covering a large part of today’s Iran, Irag, and most of the Central Asia. Registan (a “sandy place” in Persian) is the center of the acient city and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It consist of three spectacular madrassah buildings (the Ulugh Beg Madrasah, the Tilya-Kori Madrasah, and the Sher-Dor Madrasah), built between 1th and 16th centuries. Persian architecture, blue tiled domes and walls, and exquisite interiors are truly sights to behold.
