Venezuela: Mt Roraima – Fossa Sinkhole & Slot Canyon
The Fossa Sinkhole was perhaps the most amazing part of the Roraima adventure. The massive sinkhole is located deep in the middle of the flattop mountain and water drains through the mountain and comes out at the bottom. The site of a perfectly round cauldron is spectacular in itself, but if do so rather reckless and unsafe rock climbing – you can descend to the bottom of a nearby slot canyon that actually opens up into the sinkhole on the water level. The slot canyon easily rivals the American slot canyons in its bizarre beauty – except the colors here are mossy green and black.
