Zambia: Lions at Kafue National Park

There was a family of 5 lions – a female (mother) and four 6-month old cubs – that were hanging around really close to the Musekese camp in the Kafue National Park. It’s quite rare to see 4 cubs born, not to mention survive that long. This female was an experienced mother and it was her second litter. The lions don’t do much during the day, resting most of the time – the mother was solid asleep while the cubs kept roaming around her and staring at the humans. You could still notice leopard-like spots on all the cubs – they go away as the animals grow older.
