Mexico/Baja Norte: Arid Landscape of the Northern Baja California Desert
Gran Disierto Central aka Naja California Desert occupies most of the central plateau of the Baja Peninsula. It’s an arid landscape of cacti and succulents, over 500 species of plants have been recorded here. The cordon cactus is one of the largest in the world and is similar in appearance to the American saguaro. The massive stalks rise to 6 m / 30 ft high. Barrel cacti are also massive here, almost half the size of humans. And there are plenty of others – candelabra, organ pipe, cholla, pitaya, cochal, senita, various agaves, etc.
