USA/CA: Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve – Superbloom of ’05
Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve protects only one thing – the world’s largest area of the endemic California poppy wildflower (Eschscholzia californica). Otherwise dull-looking green hills are transformed into an incredible sight of bright-red carpet when the poppy blooms in early spring. The bloom doesn’t happen every year, and often is just a few patches of flowers. But in 2005, a wildflower superbloom created an absolutely stunning display of red as far as the eye can see.
