New Zealand: Fiordland NP – Doubtful Sound

Doubtful Sound was named by Captain Cook in 1770, when he wasn’t sure it was navigable or not. To take a cruise here, you need to first take a boat across Lake Manapouri, that itself lies in a rather isolated part of the Fiordlands National Park. When I finally got to the Doubtful Sound, it was in the middle of an absolute wall-of-water torrential downpour with no end in sight. Surprisingly, the cruise wasn’t cancelled, and I got to witness the sound where every cliff and mountains turns into thousands of waterfalls, many dropping 700 m / 2200 feet  – easily one of the most spectacular and surreal sights I have ever witnessed anywhere.
