Tanzania: Flamingos at Lake Natron
Lake Natron is a world-famous soda lake along the Rift Valley. Besides the mineral rich alkaline water full of cyanobacteria microorganisms, the lake attracts the largest concentration of flamingos in the world. The birds feed on the bacteria and attain their bright pink colors. It is estimated that over 75% of the world population of lesser flamingos can bee seen on Lake Natron.
