USA/NV: Historic Town of Austin

Another historic mining town along the Highway 50 in Nevada – the Loneliest Highway in America – is Austin. With the population of just 192 people it is slowly dissipating from the map, but back in 1863 – this was a booming town of 10,000, full of American and European silver prospectors, and one of the richest towns in the American West. Now, it only has one street lined up with 19th century buildings and churches – it’s a living ghost town of Nevada’s past silver boom. Just outside of town is the bizarre building of Stokes Castle, built by one of the silver magnates and abandoned now.
