Tuamotu/Fakarava: Phare de Topaka Lighthouse

This lighthouse – Phare de Topaka- is one of the oldest in Polynesia, nearly 100 years old and it looks like a prop from a Mummy movie, closely resembling an Egyptian pyramid or some alien construction. Built from giant slabs of coral limestone rock, it stands on the ocean side of the Fakarava atoll near a place where the land curves sharply. Surrounded by swaying coconut palms, the location is spectacular and absolutely nobody comes to see it.
