Oman: Muscat – Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
In 1992, Sultan Qaboos decided his country needed a grand mosque and so the dream was put into action over the next decade to be completed in 2001. It’s a humongous mosque with more marble covering its grounds than one can possibly comprehend and it’s massive dome and five minarets are a sight to behold. It’s beautifully decorated inside and out; the world’s second largest woven carpet is here (1.7 billion knots and 21 tons in weight) as is the world’s second largest chandelier. The mosque can accommodate 20k worshipers.
