Zimbabwe: Victoria Falls by Helicopter
To truly appreciate the scale of Victoria Falls, you need to get up in the air. Victoria Falls are not the tallest nor the highest volume of water, but the sheer length of the drop and height combined – 1.7km by 95 meters – makes it the world’s largest waterfall. The water drops over a ledge and into a narrow shaft of an abyss (technically called a transverse chasm) where it explodes back up in the air as misty vapor. The only outlet out of the chasm is a narrow cleft midway. You can see it from miles and miles but flying just above it – is a truly once in a lifetime sight. The tiny 2-person helicopter makes 2-3 loops over the falls, bending sideways at times for a better view. This was on my to do list for a long time and it finally happen!
