Zimbabwe: Hwange NP – Lioness and Her Prey
When we revisited the lioness later in the day, she was busy devouring the slain wildebeest. Not the most enjoyable show – the smell and the view of maggot-infested corpse was not particularly palatable, but this is nature. Lions usually work for days on their kills and they don’t mind rotten flesh (unlike leopard that often abandon it). She went for head and hind legs first – I guess the most delicious parts – ripping the hide apart and dragging the giant beast of a wildebeest around with her powerful jaws. All while three baby cubs were playing in the background.
