Botswana: Red Lechwe Antelopes
Red Lechwe is an antelope species that lives only around the wetlands of Okavango Delta and marshes and Linyanti and Caprivi Strip. It’s an aquatic animal, spending most of its live in knee deep water and feeding exclusively on water plants and reeds. Its feet and length are coated with water repellent substance, allowing red lechwe to run very quickly in the water and escape predators – big cats can’t follow them into the water. These graceful antelopes are abundant in Botswana and are one of the most commonly seen species, but they are not however found anywhere else in Africa.
