And a couple more – I promise – monasteries in Fruska Gora. Standing about a 1.5km apart. Staro (meaning old) dates from 1541 and has perhaps the most elaborate and impressive original frescos looking mysterious in the dimly lit interior. Novo – new one – was destroyed and then rebuilt recently and repainted with brand new spanking gleaming frescos. One thing for sure – religion is a serious matter in Serbia.
