Serbia: Novy Sad
Novy Sad is the second largest city in Serbia, beautifully situated on the curb of the Danube River. While rapid growth in the 20th century under socialism resulted in many ugly suburbs, the old town’s core is still relatively intact and very pleasant. The main Liberty Square holds a beautiful catholic Mary Church and an ornate townhall, and a few steps away are an Orthodox Cathedral, National Theater, and a couple more churches, a well as large synagogue. Most of the architecture in the old town is from the 18-19th centuries. And when you are done strolling around the city, check out Danube views.
