Hungary: Veszprém
The main attraction is Veszprém (like many names in Hungary, it has a nearly unpronounceable combination of consonants in it) is the Castle Quarter. Lying entirely on a cliff outcrop above the surrounding terrain, it is a walled-off mini-city with churches, castles, and squares. At the edge of the cliff with panoramic views stand statues of King Stephen I and Queen Gisela (he was instrumental to bringing Christianity to Hungary). Plenty of other historic attractions here – Firewatch Tower, Castle Gate, Veszprém Cathedral, Plague Column, Gisela Chapel, and so on.
