Ethiopia: Hawassa – Sidamo Monument
The town of Hawassa is the capital of the Ethiopian region of the Southern Regions, Nationalities and Peoples, where all the Omo Valley and many other tribes live. In the center of the city, in the main square, stands its most prominent landmark – the Sidamo monument. It is supposed to be a leaf of the fake banana plant folded in a tube (a common crop of many mountain tribes). The monument is then decorated with colorful and beautiful mosaics paying tribute to many local tribes and their traditions
