USA/Alaska: Delta Junction
Delta Junction is the end point of the Alaska Highway. Named so after the junction of two rivers – Tanana and Delta – the place was an Athabascan Indian settlement for probably thousands of years, while the western history began in 1904 as a road stop on way north to Fairbanks during the days of the gold rush. There are two historic roadhouses here – Sullivan and Rica – both preserving antique lifestyle, furniture, and other cool stuff. When the gold rush was over, the roadhouses acted as both pit stops and the road maintenance centers – there’s many old road maintenance vehicles here slowly rusting outside. All in all – another frontier-style town in the middle of nowhere in Alaska and the official endpoint of Alaska Highway.
