France: Paris – Les Invalides
There’s not much left in Paris that I haven’t seen before, but somehow I never explored Les Invalides – an imposing complex on the south bank of Seine River, somewhat opposite the Eiffel Tower. Originally built as a military hospital, it now hoses Musee de L’Armee – museum dedicated to the French Military history. It’s probably one of the world’s biggest collection of medieval arms, knight armor, cannon guns, and so on – a knight is shining armor is on every corner! There is also collection of toy soldiers, model fortified cities, cavalry uniforms, and special halls dedicated to French military accomplishments and victorious battles. Finally, the biggest church in Paris – Domes des Invalides – is here, modelled on St Peters Basilica in Rome. Inside, many French military leaders are buried, with the main tomb of Napoleon in the basement level .
