Vladimir Oblast: Suzdal – Spaso-Efimiev Monastery
The 14th century Spaso-Efimiev Monastery (aka Monastery of Our Savior and St Euthymius) is the UNESCO-listed religious complex in Suzdal. It’s a massive fortress with many towers and walls surrounding the inner town-sized space with a spectacular Cathedral of Transfiguration with 17th century frescoes, bell tower, Assumption church and several inner towers and fortifications. And just across the river from here is yet another fully-fortified monastic complex of Pokrovskiy Women’s Monastery.
