Hungary: Budapest – Matthias Church
Mathias Church is yet another architectural jewel of Budapest, located on the Buda side, right next to the Fisherman’s Bastion. It’s a magnificent gothic cathedral built in the 14th century (there was another church in this place build in the 11th century but it was destroyed by Mongols). A massive spire, gargoyles, checkered tiled roof – this is architecturally mesmerizing. It’s just as beautiful inside with massive vaulted ceilings, painted walls, colorful windows, and marble floors. Multiple kings have been coronated here.
